The Forensic Science Laboratories Uttar Pradesh under the Directorate of Forensic Science Services are multi-disciplinary laboratories in which the chemistry division receives samples for only chemical analysis. Facilities for carrying out the chemical analysis of NDPS(Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances), remnants of accelerants in arson cases and liquor cases with help of sophisticated instruments like, GC, GC-MS, UV & FTIR Spectro-photometers, Alocolyzer and Densitometer, ADU. Examination of trap/ bribe cases & other miscellaneous cases are also carried out in this division. The details of expertise of the Chemistry division are given below :

• Examination of opium/ crude opium, morphine/ opium alkaloids and its derivatives like heroin.
• Examination of Cannabis samples and its derivatives.
• Examination of Methaqualone, Amphetamine.
• Examination of Benzodiazepines such as Alprazolam, Diazepam.
• Determination of alcoholic contents (ethyl alcohol) and adulteration in liquor samples.
• Detection of inflammable material and their residues in arson case and its reconstruction and evaluation of arson sites.
• Detection of dyes and other chemicals used in trap cases.
• Identification of petroleum products and adulteration.
• Examination of corrosive chemicals in acid throwing cases.
